The mise en place approach is to prepare all of the ingredients you will need to make the dish you will be working on. To do it properly, you need to measure, cut, and clean every last one of the ingredients required in the recipe. This will enable you to move forward at a faster pace, and identify that you have exactly what is essential, and any additions you might want to include. I personally am not aware of how many French individuals invoke this process, but it is a winner in our minds. Not to mention, if you are teaching kids how to cook, this will take them through the steps most efficiently.

The term cupcake might conjure up visions of cloudlike frosting, and every color combo under the rainbow. However, as we know, adults adore these mini cakes as well, and will appreciate a modern twist that does not involve risking a bite that leaves them with magenta coloured frosting on the tip of their nose.

Make the underlying cake as you would for any function, and replace the hulking scoop of frosting with candied slices of fruit. I know what you are thinking elegant, crafty and original, because that is exactly what I thought when I came across this too.

To make the topping first thinly slice your citrus fruit of choice. Boil sugar water to make simple sugar syrup. Place the unpeeled fruit into the syrup on a low heat, and allow to simmer for one hour. The fruit should be in a softened state, but still hold its form. Finally place aside to cool, and then apply to the tops of your adult cupcakes.

To keep it as authentic as we could, and made many items by hand. One of the most enjoyable tasks was the making of the marbleized wrapping paper. It turned out so well we were hesitant to use it at all. On the other hand, the sweeties proved to be more difficult than we anticipated and were virtually inedible in our opinion.

On the big night itself, the handmade crackers were well received, and so were most of the dishes that we served. It was a good show of effort by everyone involved, and quite a learning experience too.

Over time you should see a smaller energy bill, and if you protect both the roof of your house and the air conditioning unit with the branches, you can cut costs further. Then, in the winter, when the leaves have fallen off the tree, what little sunlight there is can warm your home. This should leave you with more money in the bank and a sense of pride in knowing you have done something good for the environment also.

Luckily, there are several very nice birdhouse kits available that are intended to be constructed and decorated by adults and children together. This is a wonderful project that will teach kids skills in construction, painting and teamwork. Before you know it you will be visited by a variety of birds who all fancy the pretty shelter you have built just for them.

On another note, this is also an excellent activity for a child’s party. It will cost you less than a bounce house or character performer by a landslide. Not to mention, the kid’s are left with a lot more than just a memory of the big day.

Next time you are browsing the aisles of the wine section of your favourite shop, take a good look at the label art. If you find pieces that you appreciate, but do not care to purchase the bottle, you can look for them in the scanned form online. There are websites that have libraries of them just waiting for you to make use of them. Right at your fingertips lie the labels of hard to find wines, special bottlings, and classic bottles.

While you could go through the process of removing the labels off your used bottles, I do not recommend doing so. When you print those that have been scanned you get a much fresher, and complete looking label. Once you have the labels you can frame them individually, or in a collage form to create a one of a kind artwork.

Now there is an easy, and instant fix for this all too common problem. Or, in the alternative, if you have no lingering negative scents you may want this product for its aromatherapy. Woven floor mats have been made which combine cotton and vetiver root. The root is a perennial grass that is found in India and regularly used in world famous perfumes. It emanates a fragrance that is wonderful, and will seriously improve your entrance into your house day after day. What a simply brilliant idea.

So, in the bathroom we avoided any permanent racks by incorporating bamboo staples that are freestanding. For example, we placed a bamboo towel rack against the wall to allow the family to hang their towels when dry and wet. The material has been prepared so that it will not mildew, or mold when in contact with moisture. We then set a freestanding hand towel holder, also made of the same bamboo, on the sink counter top for easy access. The shower curtain is affixed to a suction cup rod, which is extremely easy to detach, but sturdy enough to last for many years without falling.

The end result is a bathroom that feels finished, but not final. When the residents leave for a new home they will not have to try to cover up any scrapes, holes, or cuts in the walls. Just a smooth transition, and hopefully a smooth sale.
