Holiday gatherings are a fine opportunity to bone up on your bar keeping skills, and introduce new drinks to your mixing repertoire. The below Lemon and Gin Martini recipe has gotten me rave reviews, and is especially nice in my opinion as there are no ingredients that I have to go out and get. Oh, and did I mention it looks great too?

Ingredients :

24 ounces gin of choice

4 ounces smooth vermouth

3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

As many strips of lemon zest as you like for decoration ( I use 3 lemons)

Crushed ice

Instructions:

Mix everything but the zest in a chilled pitcher

Garnish glasses with the zest.

While we nearly always discuss furniture, or decorations for the house in this section, this time is different. We want to address the way to improve the way you design your meals. The French term for today’s topic is mise en place and will work well in any kitchen. But, thanks to the French for giving it such a swanky title.

The mise en place approach is to prepare all of the ingredients you will need to make the dish you will be working on. To do it properly, you need to measure, cut, and clean every last one of the ingredients required in the recipe. This will enable you to move forward at a faster pace, and identify that you have exactly what is essential, and any additions you might want to include. I personally am not aware of how many French individuals invoke this process, but it is a winner in our minds. Not to mention, if you are teaching kids how to cook, this will take them through the steps most efficiently.

Cable ties can make our everyday lives easier by allowing us to easily organise our electronic equipment and keep hazardous cables from becoming a shock or tripping hazard. A cable tie can be made of plastic, metal, or other material and can be used indefinitely. If you have an entertainment centre or electronics rooms with many components, keeping all those cables organised can become a chore. With each new device that is added, you have at least two more cables to keep organised. Cable ties allow you to bunch the cables or cords together in a way that makes the most sense to you, and you can then label them or do whatever is necessary to keep them from causing confusion when you want to move or unplug a device from your setup.

Your local DIY store or electronics department will be able to give you a large selection, letting you choose the type of cable tie that can best help you to stay organised at home. At the office, managing your IT department’s various use of networking devices is made easier by tying wires and cables together in an organised way that will make them easier to remember, and the space that can be saved will help your office staff to be more productive by best utilising that space. The fasteners are not easily undone, making it easy for your cables and wires to stay put after you have organised them in the way that you deem best.

As a convenient and inexpensive tool for keeping wires and cables in their place, plastic ties are the best solution. Whether you work in an office environment utilising many computers and printers, or your home office or entertainment centre is growing too large for you to keep the wires from tangling, plastic zip ties are an economical and sensible choice for helping your cables stay put and out of the way. Stainless steel and adhesive mount ties are also available, and these can be used in environments where plastic would not be able to stand up to the heat and humidity over the long term. Tie guns make it easy to achieve the correct length needed to bundle a large number of cables, and these and other accessories make it easy to put your zip ties to the best possible use with maximum efficiency.

DIY stores, department stores, electronics stores, and home improvement supply stores of all kinds will usually have zip ties in stock, as their multiple uses make them a much sought after commodity. Because they are small, they can become a choking hazard, so they should not be left within reach of small children. Once secured into place, they will be very difficult for children or pets to remove. When used to their best advantage, zip ties can save you hours of frustration when installing new equipment or unplugging existing equipment from the wall or television set. It’s always a good idea to have a few of these on hand, and they can be stored conveniently inside your tool box or supply drawer.

Every so often, no matter what the year, I will come across a room decorated completely in sparkling white on the cover of a design magazine. Naturally my first thought is, oh how unrealistic for any woman who has a dog, kids or a husband to actually try this and be able to keep it up. My next assumption is that the space must feel cold, and uninviting. And for adults who visit it with kids, it must create instant fear.

But, recently I saw a few modified versions of the all white room, and have really warmed up to the idea. First off, was an all ivory kitchen, with a dusky grey wood floor and matching stove. It made me think of warmth and the scent of home baked pastries.

Next was a screened in porch, and the crisp white called in the sun like an old friend. The natural light was amazing against the white washed wooden floorboards. And the white slipcovers made the freshly painted wicker furniture look comfy. So, now I have reconsidered my opposition, and knee jerk reaction when I hear about an all white room.

Bunk beds are growing in popularity now days as they are a handy space saver. But when you are buying new bunk beds the different varieties can be confusing. So here is a handy guide to bunk beds.

Standard bunk beds

Standard bunk beds are the most well known type of bunk bed. They are a single bed frame consisting of two twin sized mattresses stacked on top of the other with a ladder or steps allowing access to the top bunk.

The top bunk of any bunk bed must have a guardrail, to conform to safety standards, along it to stop any sleepers falling out of bed.

Stackable bunk beds

A stackable bunk bed gives the owner far more flexibility than a traditional bunk bed as the two beds can be separated and set up separately or secured in place to be used like a traditional bunk bed.

Loft bunk beds

Unlike a traditional bunk bed these only have one bed but are still lifted off the ground so that the space under the bed can be utilised for things like storage or even a desk. These can even feature whole room sets such as wardrobes or draws making the most of the space available.
There are a number of different types of loft bed including:

A high sleeper

Where the top bunk is higher off the floor allowing more room underneath, which is often utilised as a study area as there is then room for a desk underneath the bed.

Junior loft or midi rise

This isn’t that high off the ground but still has a useable space for play or for a pull out desk. These often have novelty play houses attached to match the child’s room.

Triple bunk bed

A triple bunk bed truly allows the maximum sleeping room in a small space as unlike a traditional bunk bed these can actually sleep up to three people.
They have a full twin bed on the bottom layer while the top bunk is a standard single bed.

Futon bunk bed

Instead of a proper bed on the base there is a futon as the bottom bunk. This allows it to be used as a sofa most of the time but a handy guest bed when you have people round to stay. Because it is so versatile it is perfect for a teen bedroom.

If you are looking for a great priced bunk bed or cheap double beds look no further than our friends at dreams.co.uk, visit the site now to find out more

When looking for a home there are always compromises to be made. In exchange for a large garden you might have to forgo an extra bedroom, or in order to live near a good school you may have to go for a semi-detached. Another common compromise in obtaining the home you want is to be closer to the sounds associated with a city than you were hoping.

Sometimes, no matter how thorough you are in evaluating a property, you encounter some unexpected nuisances. Such as the fact that your next door neighbour begins a home renovation project that ends up taking two years, instead of four months. Thus making the sound of table saws and hammers your new alarm clock. Nobody knew this would turn into such a production, but you are still the unlucky bunch to have to suck it up and make due. So how do you turn those lemons into lemonade?

In these instances it becomes increasingly important for you to take steps to drown out those street sounds. To filter those out and bring calm, soothing ones in, use water features such as fountains and bubblers. These can make a huge difference in what you do and do not hear of the hustle and bustle of the fast pace just outside your door. Keep your space one of solitude and peace with a couple of water associated additions.

A traditional home need not be void of playful decorations, nor modern pieces of furniture. A classic styled home can work beautifully with interesting colours, fun patterns, and modern touches. Consider adding a punch of colour such as lime, chartreuse, or pea green, as the paint hue for the crown moulding, or the material of a sofa. These shades go surprisingly well with a more traditional blue tone such as hydrangea or duck egg.

Together the green and blue reflect the interaction of the sky above and the earth below. And when used in interesting contemporary patterns, and then paired with traditional ones like toile or plaid they work together like the melody in a symphony. If of course you are adverse to the green family, look to yellow. It too can produce the element of surprise in the same way when introduced properly.

For more than twenty years my wife and I have dreamed of living in a modern design home. We always thought we would have to go through a property search and long arduous hours with an architect to get just what we wanted. You know the whole stress of a building site, set backs, and budget issues.

As the years have passed the vision has evolved, and the original idea of building our own home has faded into alternatives that sound so much more appealing. I must admit we have watched one too many of those Grand Design episodes and because of that are less inspired to tackle an original build. I mean we would have never thought a silly little program would have impacted us in such a large way, but it has. And let me tell you, when they revisit the homes after years, and the work is still underway, I know it is not for us.

Luckily, we also watch that A Place in the Sun show, and through that found the location of our updated dream where modern style homes are the norm. Having found the spot, now we will embark on a quest to find some new build homes for sale in that area, because we are not starting from scratch.

If you are in the market for new flooring than the fates have smiled down upon you. Flooring manufacturers have responded to the stagnant market by upping their offerings. After analysing the market they have found that homeowners are most interested in inexpensive, low maintenance, durable floors that look good. So, to give the people what they want, they have generated more fashionable carpeting at economical prices. This means that they have improved upon the colours, patterns, designs, cuts, and feel of the carpets in light of the fact that it is the basis for over sixty percent of the retail flooring sales. Now is a great time to be looking for new carpeting.

Not to mention it is beautiful, and while it had quite a heyday many years ago, it is somewhat uncommon in this day and age.

However, there is a new way. Now you can select from over twenty colours in premade squares or slabs. Another bonus is that they are made from mostly post industrial and consumer recycled items. This is definitely a great thing.
